Kasha Katuwe - Tent Rocks National Monument

I had seen pictures of this place somewhere and since it was on the way (or not too far out of the way) off we went!  We stayed at the Army Corp of Engineers campground at Lake Cochita.

On the way Gary does a double take when he thinks he sees a bear!

False alarm just a cow hiding from this.

Lizard!

Kasha Katuwe means White Cliffs in a Pueblo language.

The gentleman at the Gate told us to walk the Slot Canyon trail in addition to the regular Loop trail.

We find out why it is called Slot Canyon

and where the name Tent Rocks comes from

What an amazing place.  I think of how the settlers tried to eliminate the Indians.  They took all of the land that could be fenced in or developed, and moved the Indians to what they felt were remote desolate and useless land.  Now the land they took - kept pristine for thousands of years by the Indians - they have pretty much destroyed in a couple of hundred years.  The desolate lands where the Indians were banished to are some of the most beautiful awe inspiring places in this country.  I thank all who have taken part in preserving these places.
