Creede Colorado

It's 4th of July and we actually have it off.  Fireworks were cancelled in Crested Butte because of the Fire Ban.  The only place on the Western Slopes for fireworks is Gunnison, we figure it will be crazy there so we drive down to Creede.

We drive through Lake City where they are preparing for their 4th of July Parade - we just make it through before it starts.

We continue on the Silver Thread Scenic Byway

We stop at the North Clear Creek Falls.  You wouldn't know it was here from the road except for the sign.

This area is the beginning of the Rio Grand, the river runs 1,865 miles to the Gulf of Mexico, near Brownsville Texas, where it ends.

 We picnic alongside the river
 Tucson finds a stick
 We arrive in Creede
It's a quaint little town, but it's hopping for the Holiday.  This is where they are filming the Lone Ranger with Johnny Depp - he's had the good sense to leave town.
A canal runs alongside town
The Fire Department is actually built inside an old mine shaft.

There is a scenic drive at the end of town

It leads to some old mining towns.

Keep an eye out if you see the Movie to see if these are in it.
Pass the the continental divide on the way home through North Cochetopa Pass

It turns into nice weather for a Duck!

 Tucson hears the Thunder!

We had hoped to continue on to Great Sand Dunes National Park but the weather didn't look good and Gary was tired of driving so back home we went.

Till Later!

Meanwhile, we keep on Trek'n
